History

The village of Godnje lies in the heart of Karst. Godnje is surrounded by numerous vineyards that especially glow with colours in autumn. According to legend, there once lived a wealthy father who had three sons and a daughter. Since he died without leaving a will, his children had to split his land themselves. One of the sons pointed towards what today is known as Godnje and said: “The land there has good exposure. That shall be mine,” which gave the village its name that is mentioned in historical books as early as in 1252. And indeed, the terra rossa soil provides favourable conditions for high quality Teran.

The Širca farm has been engaged in farming for centuries. Our ancestors were advanced winegrowers – a hundred years ago they were already grafting the vine refosco, providing the whole Karst with it. Initially it was a mixed viticulture and livestock farm, before focusing on intensive wine-growing. Our ancestors’ success is acknowledged with awards.
