Karst

Karst is a rocky landscape where water has sculptured the limestone ground and formed caves. It stretches between the Gulf of Trieste, the Vipava Valley, the Soča Valley and Brkini. Karst is one of the four wine-growing areas of the Primorska region, situated at altitudes between 200 and 400 metres, where 600 hectares of vineyards are being cultivated altogether. The vine thrives on the russet washed out soil also known as jerina or terra rossa. This kind of soil in addition to the Karst wind burja, leaves a unique mark on both its landscape and people.
